Sallie and Henry are one of our favorite types of couples to work with. Sallie came to us with a huge design inspiration deck full of color, patterns, and directions we could take her design. After some narrowing and refinement of ideas, we decided on a design with shades of green and bold statement pieces to balance elegance with high energy and fun.
Their ceremony took place at the Lebanon Chapel at Airlie Gardens, with a gorgeous floral arch lining the doorframe entrance.
Their cocktail hour and reception is really where our design skills came to shine! The interior of the Cape Fear Club leans very masculine with dark wood tones, so we had the task of transforming the space to feel more romantic and feminine. We landed on the idea of a swanky polo lounge, and Sallie loved it!
As guests entered the club for cocktail hour, we wanted to soften the entrance while also adding some drama. We added green draping, both elevating the room and bringing in more color.
Working with one main color doesn’t mean your design has to be flat or boring! We started with a HEX shade of green that was the base color and then added in complementary shades of kiwi and olive with the linens and fabrics.
Their green bar, rented from White Birch, was a star of the evening, with custom wallpaper inserts adding another layer of drama and popping against the dark wood tones of the club. When working with a lot of solid colors, we love incorporating patterns in both the wallpaper on the bar and stage rentals and linens to add interest.
For dinner, we decided on stations and passed appetizers. It can be easy to go overboard with food options, but keep in mind that your wedding experience is quality over quantity!
This same sentiment can be applied to your design as well, leaning into a few statement pieces but fully committing to them. The most iconic element of Sallie and Henry’s wedding was definitely their green and white checkered dance floor. They had a high-energy band with a packed dance floor, and the pop of color on the dance floor made an unexpected and large impact!
PS. With a wedding with multiple locations and custom design elements, it is important to allow your planner and photographer to work together to create a plan to capture all of your design! We are very thankful to George Creatives for coming a day early to capture the cocktail hour and reception design so the day of could be spent capturing the personal moments!
